With the end of summer just around the corner, it's the perfect time to prepare your garden and terrace furniture for the off-season. Here we share our professional tips for maintaining and preserving your furniture after the summer:
✅ 1. General cleaning before storing or covering
Never store furniture dirty or wet.
Aluminum or resin frames: Clean with warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive products.
Fabrics and cushions: If they have removable covers, wash them according to the manufacturer's instructions. If not, clean them with a soft brush, water, and mild soap. Let them dry completely in the sun before storing them.
Wood: Use specific products for exterior wood and oil if necessary. Cleaning and moisturizing are key to preventing cracking.
✅ 2. Review the condition of the furniture
Take the opportunity to detect small defects.
Check for loose bolts, worn gaskets, or small cracks that you can repair now before they get worse.
Check if any fabric has lost color or water resistance: you could renew it in the fall or winter without rushing.
✅ 3. Protection from sun and humidity
In Nerja we continue to have sunny days… but also more humidity.
Use breathable protective covers: they prevent the accumulation of dust and moisture, but allow the materials to breathe.
Don't use plastics not designed for outdoor furniture, as they can trap moisture and cause mold or odor.

If you can store some of the furniture, all the better.
Cushions and textiles: Store them in dry, well-ventilated places (indoor or outdoor trunks).
Folding or modular furniture: If you have the space, store it in a storage room, basement, or garage.
Barbecues: Clean them thoroughly and cover them with their original cover. Avoid leaving them exposed to rain.
